So you’ve achieved your first role as a manager. Exciting times.
But how do you make sure you are doing the right things in the first few days and weeks?
Before you know it, it’ll be 3 months, and a quarterly report will be due.
I wish I’d been given this advice when I got my first leradership role so many years ago!

- Develop Self Awareness: This is the biggest thing you can do. Leading people is an emotional game. People are driven by their emotions. You’ll have some good ideas to bring to the team but the team may not think so. Not at first, anyway. Get to know the team and how you interact with them. There’ll be those who are positive to your presence and those who will lag in their respect for you. Ignore both. Be aware of your own emotions as you manage this new team and what triggers you and them. Your major focus is to get to know their strengths and weaknesses.
- Set Clear Goals and Expectations. People thrive in environments where goals, actions and expected behaviours are clear. Communicate what good looks like and highlight it at every opportunity…
