Learn From the Best: I Compared My Writing to A Pro

I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner!

I read hundreds of articles on Medium and am always inspired and motivated.

Every time I publish I think, this is the one! (It never is!) So I scour through my writing to see where I could improve. Is it the topic? Is it my writing? Is it the image? Is it that fact that I can’t (gulp!) write?

There are some amazingly talented and creative people on the Interwebs!

Looking at the tables above, the Pro writer definitely has the edge. I didn’t do this as a competition. It’s not about I have “fewer hard sentences”. It’s about gaining insights on how I might improve the reading experience for the audience. And this is an experiment comparing only one article (for now! 😉).

The Passives

I will, however, call out the passive voice count between the two. I have 30% less words and six times the passive voice! The Pro only has one instance of the passive voice and, if you knew the Pro (and you do!), you’d agree. They are a very confident writer, knows their stuff and doesn’t leave you guessing where they stand on a topic!
