In defence of the 9–5
It’s not all bad…
Do you find yourself yearning for the creator economy lifestyle? All those “creationists” making millions every minute while spending some of their time bashing the 9–5?
Some of it is absolutely warranted, of course. But not all.
One of the lures of being a “creator” is being your own boss.
But, let me ask you, would you be a good boss? How are you at your 9–5 now? Are you motivated? Do you live in the rare air of frequently going above and beyond? Would you, really, go above and beyond for yourself and your customers? Do you produce good work? Really good work? What do your co-workers say about you?
Now imagine a situation where there is no supervision, no automatic guidance, few opportunities to just drop in on someone and sound out an idea?
A place where a seeming lack of progress initiates a scathing attack from your supervisor (i.e. you!).
Now what about the income? Yes, you can earn millions. But how many do? You can read here, on Medium, how much many people make. It's great that they do, and I hope to as well one day. But will it become my sole income? Will it become yours?
