I struggled for ages trying to get enough protein each day. They say you need between 0.8 and 1.2 g per pound per day and aim for you goal weight. For me that is 170 lbs. So, I need 170g of protein.

A general overview on a good day would look something like this:

  • 3–4 (jumbo) eggs in the morning for ~32g protein. Add some Greek Yoghurt (100g for 4g).
  • A couple of tubs (2 x 200g, 48g protein) of cottage cheese dispersed throughout the day. Maybe a morning and an afternoon snack.
  • A steak at night provides me 46g protein.

All in all, a measly 126g protein — 75% of my target.

I don’t want processed protein if I can help it, meaning protein bars and the like. I’m after the real, unprocessed stuff.

And I need to manage my weight. I can't keep eating to get the 170g of protein if the calories in exceed the calories out.

And then I stumbled on this video by Tom DeLauer.

What’s the Beef?

Long story short, from a protein to calories perspective, I can get my 170g by eating 750g of beef mince in a day…
