For years I felt like a fake. I’d be exposed, with any success attributed to others.

But, as the old adage goes, fake it till you make it, right?

That’s a terrible place to live. Showing up each day, anxious I was a fake. I should hand in my notice, find a hole, pull the dirt over me, and not bother anyone.

Pity party, anyone?

But here’s the rub, and I bet you get this: I’m trying, bloody hard, to be the best I can be!

How am I going to get better if I stop trying?

Why “Faking It” Doesn’t Work!

I’m caught between the mental and emotional gymnastics of feeling like a fake. But wanting to be better.

When do the fake feelings stop?

Is there a point where I flip to “competent”?

Does someone tell me?

Do I get a certificate?

If I live by the “fake it till you make it” mentality, I’m repeating the words “fake it …”!
