“Overwhelm” is a debilitating emotion.

You feel stuck with seemingly nowhere to turn. And when you do try something, you make a mistake which seems to reinforce it was the wrong thing to do!

This was The Wife’s predicament the other day. I'd been there, many times. But I’ve learned some things along the way.

Action 1: Pick One!

That’s the lesson. Pick one thing. The most important thing, and work on that until you complete it, or you cannot do any more with it until something else happens.

Write down what that “something else” is so you know when it happens.

Then move on to the next thing.

Action 2: “Headphones on!”

Headphones are a metaphor for no distractions. Headphones often work, so I always use over-the-ear headphones when doing this. So everyone can see I’m not listening!

Pick your own “do not distract me” method.

Mindset

How you think about your overwhelm will affect your mood and your progress.
