Have you Lost Sight of Your Goals?
There’s always time to reset!
My mate, Scott Amy, asked me that recently.
He was having a beer at his new local now that he has moved across the country.
It was a fair question. Most weekends we’d catch up at our local here in Perth for a quiet beer, a few stories, a lot of encouragement to get back in the trenches of commercial life in the week ahead.
If Only Our Goals Could Speak
It made me think of the goals we set ourselves for 2023. It’s January 29 as I write this and I wonder if our goals, were they able to speak, would be saying much the same thing: “Where the bloody hell are you? You’re supposed to be [here]!”
Pull out the goal you set for yourself. Go on, I’ll wait.
Okay, back? 👍
How are you doing? Are you on track? If you have de-railed, what caused that? Can you get back on track?
Reset the goal, set a new date, list the actions you can take today/tomorrow. Get to it.
One thing Scott does, and I’d say it’s part of his DNA, is that he encourages you to try again. Not just with words with as much substance as fairy floss, but words that cause you to take action, go again, and make progress.
I have just reset my goals. Yes, I fell off. Why do you think I’m writing this? 🤷♂️
Your goal is still there. It’s waiting for you. Get after it.
If some accountability will help, let me know your goal/s in the comments and I’ll check in with you in two weeks time, and you can with me.
Scary, huh? 😉
Short one today but please review your goals and take action.
Here’s something to think about:
The date you set to achieve your goal, or the markers you set as progress steps? Those dates will come. The time will pass. And, on that day, you will most likely remember your goal.
All we need to do is take daily action to progress towards that goal.
One last thing:
Our shower was leaking for a while. Ignoring my lack of action on fixing the washer for a second, we put a bucket under the shower head to catch the drips. We got a drip every other minute or so. Not much really, bit you can guess what had in the bucket at the end of the day!
Our daily “drips” add up.
Thank you for reading! 😊
My purpose in writing on Medium:
- Personal Development — writing helps me articulate my own thinking. I find trying to create an “argument” for a perspective on a topic quite revealing and at times challenging and I can be more critical of my own thoughts. I frequently find myself thinking: “Why DO I think this?”
- Developing Others — to help people make better choices by helping them think critically and realise their potential. We are often blinded by beliefs and thinking given to us by others. Taking control of our own thoughts and beliefs can be liberating.
