What is Your Writing Journey?
This is what got me here!
As a kid growing up in a country town, I wasn’t surrounded by artists or creatives, perhaps like you might find today.
The son of an engineer and a stay-at-home mum who used to be a nurse, we were your average family. I actually thought we were special, but as I grew up, I realised we weren’t. Just average.
I’m not sure how old I was when I started reading for pleasure. But I do remember one of the books: Basket Fever. I think I read it more than eight times.
Isaac Asimov
I then found a book by Isaac Asimov, “The Best of Issac Asimov” and my love for science fiction was born.
My mum had an Olympia manual typewriter and I think my sister was taking typing lessons at high school. But I commandeered the typewriter as often as I could to write stories. Always one page, without an ending.
No-one took much of an interest so I continued to write just for myself. My parents weren’t the type to enourage you in anything. And I wasn’t the kid who obsessed over it. Thought it did allow me my own space which I enjoyed.
